Thyristor Technology, Air-Cooled

Application
Air-cooled thyristor technology is characterized by particularly robust and durable power adjustment. Depending on requirements, it is used with natural air cooling or forced air cooling – especially for high-current applications – and impresses with its compact design and universal application possibilities.

Product description
The thyristor power supply can be flexibly adapted to the respective process: it can be operated with constant current or voltage and controlled both manually and via customer-specific interfaces. Precise pulse applications can also be realized thanks to the electronic control. This technology has also proven itself in pole reversal processes, such as in degreasing or hard chrome plating.
In addition, our thyristor technology is also available in other cooling variants – including with synthetic coolant, water-cooled, or in combined system solutions for maximum flexibility in different industrial environments.

Customer benefits
Thyristor technology is frequently used in the medium power range ≥ 2,000 A. Easy to operate, reliable in harsh industrial environments, and straightforward to service, thyristor technology enjoys a high level of trust.

FAQ

How reliable are MUNK thyristor rectifiers in continuous operation?

The rectifiers are designed for heavy industrial continuous loads and are characterized by an exceptionally long service life. The high temperature resistance of thyristors ensures stable operating conditions even in warm or thermally stressed industrial halls. Many systems from previous decades remain in productive use, having only had their control systems optimized or their cooling modernized.
MUNK maintains extensive spare parts inventories and can deliver many components quickly. In the event of failures, rental and replacement units are available to significantly reduce production interruptions. In addition, many newer adequate spare parts are available. Technical service provides support by telephone or email.
Thyristor rectifiers from MUNK are used in numerous industrial sectors, particularly in anodizing processes, hard chrome plating, melting and high-temperature processes, electrolysis processes, hydrogen processes, and other applications. Their thermal robustness and reliability make them ideal for demanding production environments.
At high currents and high voltages, thyristor technology often has an economic advantage. It has a higher thermal load capacity, is more attractively priced, and achieves very high efficiency in the nominal load range, which is comparable to or even better than IGBT systems in many applications. This makes it a reliable long-term solution.
Thyristor rectifiers from MUNK GmbH achieve very high efficiency levels at nominal power. The optimized transformer design and energy-efficient current paths ensure low losses and economical operation even under demanding conditions.
