Thyristor technology, synth. water-cooled

Application
Thyristor technology is used in numerous industrial applications where a reliable and efficient DC power supply is required. Typical areas of application include strip galvanizing, conventional electroplating, and demanding high-current processes. It offers a stable and robust solution for DC-based processes in surface technology.

Product Description
Thyristor technology is a proven and durable design featuring an energy-efficient hybrid cooling concept. The entire power section is integrated into a housing with synthetic coolant. A circulation pump combined with a heat exchanger ensures that the generated waste heat is reliably dissipated via the customer’s cooling water.

This sustainable cooling concept not only enables efficient operation but also allows for the utilization of waste heat. With high water inlet temperatures of approx. 45 °C, return temperatures of up to 60-65 °C can be achieved, unlocking additional energy potential.

Customer Benefits
This tap transformer technology is primarily used in the range of ≥ 3,000 A up to 15,000 A. Due to the high degree of protection (IP 54) and its relatively compact form, installation close to the process is usually possible. With the help of a sustainable heat recovery concept, users can optimize their energy costs accordingly.

FAQ

Why does MUNK preferably offer water-cooled thyristor rectifiers?

Water-cooled rectifiers ensure uniform and efficient heat dissipation, allowing high currents and continuous loads to be operated safely. They enable more compact designs and stable internal temperatures, even in warm or chemically demanding production environments. In addition, air-cooled systems are available for maintenance-friendly applications, as well as oil-cooled variants for particularly high thermal requirements or extreme continuous load conditions.
Available functions include polarity reversal operation, pulse functions, time-programmable sequences, and industrial communication interfaces. For grid connection, 6-pulse and 12-pulse designs are available, with 12-pulse systems enabling more harmonious grid feedback. For sensitive processes, additional chokes can be used to reduce residual ripple.
MUNK maintains extensive spare parts inventories and can deliver many components quickly. In case of failures, loaner units and replacement devices are available to significantly reduce production interruptions. In addition, there are many newer adequate spare parts. Technical service provides support by phone or email.
Thyristor rectifiers from MUNK are used in numerous industrial sectors, particularly in anodizing processes, hard chrome plating, melting and high-temperature processes, electrolysis processes, hydrogen processes, and other applications. Their thermal robustness and reliability make them ideal for demanding production environments.
Grid coupling can be implemented as a 6-pulse or 12-pulse design. 12-pulse systems reduce grid feedback and ensure more harmonious load conditions. The selection is based on the grid environment, existing infrastructure, and required process quality.
